Difference between Engine Oil Grades : 20W40 & 20W50

20W40 and 20W50 are both types of motorcycle engine oil, with the main difference being the viscosity. The number following the "W" (which stands for "Winter") refers to the oil's viscosity at low temperatures. In this case, 20W refers to the oil's viscosity at low temperatures, specifically at -20°C. The second number, 40 and 50, refer to the oil's viscosity at high temperatures, specifically at 100°C. The higher the number, the thicker the oil.
20W40 oil is a multi-grade oil that has a lower viscosity at high temperatures, which can provide better fuel efficiency and easier cold weather starting. On the other hand, 20W50 oil is thicker at high temperatures and is typically recommended for older bikes or those that are operated in extremely hot weather conditions, as it can provide better lubrication and protection for the engine.
It is important to note that the viscosity of the oil also depends on the brand, so it is always better to consult the owner manual for the specific oil recommendation for your motorcycle.
